I hand-carve wooden spoons, from locally sourced greenwoods. If the wood has beautiful grain, this can be enhanced with a light coat of food grade oil. But if the wood is plain, I sometimes use milk-paint on the handle to give some colour. The tradition I follow comes from Scandinavia, but is now very popular in the UK.
