Duncan Mackay FLI wittily distills the essence of beautiful landscapes in beach foraged materials. Following the ancient Far Eastern, Buddhist, Tang Dynasty art form of ‘spirit stones’ he punks up a modern response with sea-spat plastics from a vengeful Anthropocene ocean melding the natural with the un-natural. His ‘sculptures for small spaces’ create a new narrative and are boxed, stamped, signed and scrolled for the discerning art investor. Shortlisted for an international art award the judges said “I love the concept of this piece and find the exploration of different materials being brought together to form a fragile whole fascinating”.
